Two African countries, Gabon and Togo, have been approved to join the Commonwealth. Many media outlets are reporting that the 54-member Commonwealth has added two more countries.
Many of these African countries are English-speaking members of the British ruling class. On the last day of the Commonwealth Group summit in Rwanda, President Paul Kagame welcomed Gabon and Togo to the Commonwealth Group as a family.
The country is said to be the first French-speaking West African country to become a member since Rwanda joined the Commonwealth Group in February many intellectuals say this represents a major turning point for Africa’s development.
